Curvetine XR - Closing Wheels. The curvetine closing wheel "chips-in" the sidewall compaction, often produced by the vee-opener blades. It crumbles the soil and promotes lateral root penetration. The pronounced curve, allows the tine ease out of the ground, without ejecting material like a straight tooth closing wheel. The thumblike tooth will firm, and provide seed-to-soil contact. This makes moisture available, and prevents the appearance of air pockets around the seed. The Curvetine XR does NOT require a drag chain or seed firmer!

PLEASE NOTE:
• JD 1700 Series use models 1201R & 1201L
• JD 7000-7300 use models 1302R & 1302L
• Kinze planters use models 1301R &1301L
• White planters use models 1201R &1201L
(White planters require kit # 9936 for left hand wheel)
(JD 7000-7300 users, please call for assistance!!)

NEW! Dawn now offers a new lighter spring for JD 7200 - JD1700 series planters. This spring is approx. 1/2 the rate of the standard JD spring, and provides additional usable settings. This is especially important when running into lighter or wetter soils. A similar spring is also available through JD parts. We recommend this spring : DAWN P/N 102151, whenever you are running two curvetines, especially when running in conventionally tilled ground.

NOTE:
If you have a John Deere 7000 - 7300 planter, or a Pre-1993 Kinze planter, please call us for assistance when choosing your Curvetine model numbers. Equipping these planters can be tricky.

Curvetine II - Closing Wheels. These are Curvetines for grain drills. We have models to fit most varieties of drill. The lower photo shows the Curvetine on a John Deere 750 Drill. It weighs approximately as much as the standard Deere cast iron wheels. This tool is very nuanced, and so we recommend that you contact us, or your local dealer to properly choose the correct model for your drill.

• JD 750 and 1850, use 1220R-TL & 1220L-TL
• JD 1560-1895 Drills, use 1225R & 1225L
•Case SDX users, use 300275R and 300275 L

This is a photo of a No-Till customer running into wet clay. Notice the extreme sidewall compaction left by the vee-opener blades.

Here you can compare the action of the Curvetine wheel with that of the standard rubber. It is able to crumble the wet and sticky soil, typical of spring field conditions.

These photos show the action of two Curvetine closing wheels. We recommend you run two wheels per row when you are running into no-till ground. Customers who are running into conventionally tilled ground often opt to run one standard 12" OD rubber tire with one 13" OD Curvetine. The new Curvetine XR is versatile enough to be used two per row in conventional ground, or in a no-till environment. In conventional conditions with JD planters we recommend our lighter down-pressure spring.
